In recent years, the demographics of religious congregations have evolved rapidly. The accelerating decrease in number of members has led to significant capacity gaps. Several congregations are struggling to find people who are willing to take on leadership roles and ensure renewal within this function. This Leaders' circle will invite participants to reflect on existing or emerging models of governance which could provide sustainable leadership and governance, but also on criteria and issues that should be considered.

His presentation will focus on India, the world’s largest democracy, with parallels drawn with changes taking place in Latin America, Asia, Africa and North America. Fr. Xavier will also speak of how justice, equality, human rights, and “development for all” are being redefined by authoritarian governments all over the world.

In that context, most religious communities have been led to use or find new means of communication in order to break down the isolation and stay in touch. This webinar will be aimed at encouraging an exchange about the field of communication among leaders in order to identify the communication models existing in their congregation and the awareness that the pandemic has fostered.

The CRC’s General Assembly is an opportunity for the leaders of Catholic religious congregations of women and men religious in Canada to meet and share their experience, to reflect on important issues and to celebrate together. The chosen theme of the 33rd edition is: “A Present Hope: Reading the Signs of the Times.” Sister Laurence Loubières, XMCJ, and Father Gilles Mongeau SJ, will be the facilitators of this General Assembly proposed in a virtual way given the health restrictions in place.
