About the study

  • Commissioned by the National Association of Vocation and Formation Directors (NAVFD).
  • Conducted by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA).
  • Made possible through a generous grant from the Conrad Hilton Foundation.
  • Other studies carried out in Australia, France, Ireland and the United States.

Who was involved?

  • French and English-speaking communities (172)
  • Major Superiors (surveys)
  • New members (those having entered since 2000) – surveys and focus groups
  • 69% women and 31% men
  • 66 of all members who entered since January 1, 2000 remain in their Congregations
  • 56% of all Congregations involved have new members – Congregations interviews
