26 people attended the most recent JPIC Atlantic gathering October 10-12, 2018 at the Religieuses de Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Cœur motherhouse in Moncton. JPIC coordinators from the region gathered to discuss relevant social justice issues in Atlantic Canada.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Circle held its biannual meeting in Ottawa on 19 and 20 October 2018. The members reiterated and reconfirmed the Mission Statement and the core purposes of the Circle, agreeing to give priority to creating spaces of dialogue between Catholic and Indigenous spiritualties, educating and providing formation for its own members on Indigenous cultural and spiritual practices in Canada, and serving as a catalyst for encounter and dialogue within the Catholic Church and in Canadian society at large on Indigenous questions.

The birth of a new Canadian Franciscan Province with a new identity began on October 22, 2018. The union has been formalized by a decree pronounced by the General Minister of the Order of Friars Minor, Michael Anthony Perry, OFM. The new leader of the province, known as the Minister Provincial, is Pierre Charland, OFM.

From September 9 to 14, 2018, some forty nuns from the contemplative communities of Canada held their 31st General Assembly at the Ermitage Sainte-Croix, located on the shores of Lac des Deux Montagnes in Pierrefonds, Quebec. The theme of this gathering was “Seeking the face of God.”

The Franciscan (Order of Friars Minor) provinces of St. Joseph (Eastern Canada) and Christ the King (Western Canada) are pleased to announce their upcoming union. This union will take place at the end of a process begun several years ago.

Chapters are a grace-filled moment in the life of religious congregations. Spring-Summer is typically the time religious congregations hold their chapters. Here are the results of a recent consultation made among the members of the CRC (dated 10th September).

Last June in Saskatchewan, the Daughters of Providence celebrated the bi-centennial of their congregation in the Diocese of Prince Albert and Saskatoon. Memories, sharings, souvenirs of the 120 years of presence in Western Canada were signs of continued friendship between sisters and friends.

From August 23 to 26, bishops, leaders of religious congregations, and lay Catholic leaders met in Medellin, Colombia at a major congress to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the second meeting of the Latin American Episcopal Conference (CELAM). Mgr Luc Cyr, Archbishop of Sherbrooke (Quebec), Sister Michelle Payette, MIC, CRC Past-President, and Father Timothy Scott, CSB, were the three Canadian visitors of this gathering.

As a part of the activities of the Quebec Archeology Month, the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) are offering a premiere of an animated presentation with projection on the evolution of this historical building erected around 1740.
