Statement on the sexual abuse and the protection of minors in the catholic church in Canada

Following tragic revelations of sexual assaults on children committed by clergy and members of religious institutes, the Canadian Religious Conference (CRC) expresses its indignation and sorrow. The Conference hopes that the truth be made known concerning these gravely serious crimes in order that there be justice for victims.

The CRC encourages its members to work with civil authorities to identify those guilty of these acts, to act in support of reparative justice for victims, and to implement the recommendations of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops for the protection of minors.

About the CRC

The Canadian Religious Conference is an association that brings together the leaders of 240 Catholic congregations of women and men religious in Canada. The CRC’s mission is to encourage its members to live fully their vocation in following Christ and to support them in their prophetic witness to justice and peace in a Canadian context.
