Passing of Sister Margaret Kane, CSJ

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada is saddened to announce the death of Sister Margaret Kane at St. Joseph’s Residence, London on January 30, 2021 in her 62nd year as a Sister of St Joseph.

Sister Margaret was the daughter of the late Howard Kane and Margaret Daly and was predeceased by her brother, Richard. She will be remembered with much love, and missed by her sister-in-law Jo-Ann Kane, her nephew Michael and his wife Cynthia and family, her niece Jennifer and Stephen Doxsee and family and the members of her Religious Community.

Sister Margaret ministered as an educator. Rooted in faith and the love of the congregation, she used her compassion, animation skills, administrative abilities, and sense of humour as an effective teacher and Principal in Hamilton, Hespeler, Stoney Creek and Dawson Creek British Columbia. She then accepted the role of Director of Formation for the congregation and became the Director of St. Joseph’s Centre of Spirituality in Hamilton. She took some time to continue Theological studies at Toronto School of Theology and joined the staff of Ignatius College in Guelph as the Director of the Institute for Communal Life. Her gifts as a skilled facilitator and Spiritual Director were deeply appreciated in Canada, the United States and Japan.

Sister Margaret was elected the General Superior of the Hamilton Community in 1999. During her time as Congregational Leader she also served a term as President of the Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada. Upon completion of her time in leadership she returned to the ministries of Facilitation, Retreat Director and Spiritual Direction.

A private Funeral Service will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Burlington on Friday, February 5 at 10:30 a.m. If you wish to view the service virtually please log into the website for the live link. Private interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington will follow.
