When faith meets trials: Creating a culture of resilience

Many religious communities in Canada suffered as they faced lockdown, often unable to be at the bedside of their dying sisters and brothers, and grieved them while funerals were sometimes deferred. During webinars organized for the CRC members in September and October of 2020, the theme of resilience was addressed by Fr. Daniel Renaud, originally from Quebec and currently ministering in the American province of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. In this interview, he offers encompassing perspectives on the challenges of grief and isolation, especially in religious contexts, to foster resilience for those facing such situations.

The Canadian Religious Conference has held a webinar to its members in order to provide information and answers to questions especially concerning religious communities in the context of COVID-19. The guest speaker was Dr. Valérie Julie Brousseau, surgeon in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck surgery.

Rougemont Abbey: An experience with youth

How does a community open up spaces for youth in search of spirituality? The Cistercians of Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth abbey (Rougemont, Québec) have a few years of experience in this matter. Founded in 1932, the community has made younger generations a focus of their mission. In this interview, Fr. Abuse in the Church on the big screen

There is a surprising number of feature-length films and documentaries on the theme of sexual abuse (and other forms of abuse) in the Church. The following productions are suggested because they are opportunities to raise awareness on the experiences of victims and to reflect on this painful Church reality. In this way, these films prove that media can play a necessary and relevant role in understanding and moving forward.

A way of healing: Restorative Justice

he Centre for Services in Restorative Justice (CSJR), founded in 2001 in Montreal, is working to create spaces for expression, listening and sharing among people affected by criminal acts. […] Since the restorative justice approach is based on the liberating voice of the crime victim speaking out, that same approach applied to the context of sexual abuse in the Church must also begin with that kind of testimony.
