You are warmly invited to participate in an interfaith conference on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to be held at Westmount High School on Saturday, May 20, 2017. The UN Indigenous Declaration, adopted in 2007 and affirmed by Canada in 2016, “is the most comprehensive international human rights instrument to specifically address their economic, social, cultural, political, civil, spiritual and environmental rights.”

Canada’s Truth & Reconciliation Commission specifically called upon churches and governments to adopt and comply with the Declaration. Representatives of the four denominations signatory to the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement (Anglican, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian and United) together with Lutheran, Quaker and Indigenous representatives have organized the event. Jewish and Muslim representatives have also been invited to attend.

The conference will frame the Declaration as a document touching all Canadians toward practical proposals for actionable, measurable projects of reconciliation by churches and other organizations in the Montreal area working hand-in-hand with Indigenous peoples.

A freewill donation of $10.00 is suggested. Ample free parking is available at the school.

Please confirm your attendance at 520conference@gmail.com or 514-725-5047. Your comments and questions are welcome.
