KAIROS is committed to a new relationship with Indigenous peoples in Canada and around the globe, a relationship based on mutual respect, equity and the full realization of Indigenous peoples’ rights. Core to this commitment is the principled implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) calls the “framework for reconciliation”.
Many of you would remember the Aboriginal Rights Coalition which over twenty – five years ago began working with Indigenous elders and teachers to develop an interactive way of learning the history most Canadians are never taught. The KAIROS Blanket Exercise was the result. The KBE has since been offered thousands of times throughout Canada and the fourth edition was released in 2016.
Several congregations, the CCCB and other Canadian churches are responding to the Truth and Reconciliation 94 Calls to Action. It is never too late to join.
