On February 7 and 8, close to 100 people from all over the country convened at the Mary Ward Center in Toronto for the JEM (Joint Ecological Ministry) annual gathering. Apraham Niziblian, CRC Associate Director, JPIC, had the opportunity to finally meet and hear Dr. Heather Eaton from St. Paul University in Ottawa. Her two-day exchange with participants was both inspiring and challenging.
Dr. Eaton, who holds an interdisciplinary doctorate in ecology, feminism, theology and religious pluralism presented a lecture entitled: Flourishing of Life for All, which was a deeply spiritual multi-sectoral reflection on the power and responsibility of religious communities to be a prophetic voice for action on climate change.
A second presenter, Karri Munn-Venn who is Senior Policy Analyst for Citizens for Public Justice (CPJ) presented a concrete action plan for communities wanting to go further for the environment during Lent. Karri coordinates CPJ’s Give it up for Lent campaign and was on hand to explain how the program works and how members can take their activism one step further!
