SUMMARY:Webinar “Canada\, the Churches\, and Bill C-15”
DESCRIPTION:Information on the Federal Bill C-15 \nIn March 2016\, the Canadian Religious Conference (CRC)\, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB)\, the Canadian Catholic Aboriginal Council\, and Caritas Canada – Development and Peace signed a joint declaration\, in answer to Call to Action 48 (CTA 48) of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. CTA 48 called on all faith groups in Canada to “formally adopt and comply with the principles\, norms\, and standards of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) as a framework for reconciliation.” The UNDRIP was passed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007\, and the Holy See Permanent Observer to the UN has explicitly endorsed this Declaration on numerous occasions. \nOn December 3rd\, 2020\, the Honorable David Lametti\, Federal Minister of Justice\, introduced Bill C-15\, which would require the Government of Canada\, in consultation and cooperation with Indigenous peoples\, to take all measures necessary to ensure that the laws of Canada are consistent with the rights of Indigenous peoples set out in the UNDRIP. Bill C-15 reflects Bill C-262 and takes it further. C-262 had been introduced by NPD MP Romeo Saganash in 2016 and was adopted by a majority of federal MPs\, only to be blocked by Conservative Senators in 2019. \nThe support of Churches\, institutes of consecrated life and organizations who answered CTA 48 is requested for Bill C-15. In order to present in more detail the bill of law\, its consequences for Indigenous Peoples in Canada\, and its next steps\, you are invited to a webinar. \nFor more information : \n\nCatholic response to CTA 48: https://crc-canada.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Catholic-Response-Call-to-Action-48.pdf\nInformation and invitation to support Bill C-15: https://www.faithinthedeclaration.ca/\n\nThe webinar\nFebruary 18 at 7:00 pm (EST) there will be a learning event “Canada\, the Churches\, and Bill C-15” sponsored by “Faith in the Declaration”: A coalition of faith houses and organizations in support of UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples legislation. \nThe event will include conversation on why The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples legislation is important to Canadian churches. A panel of experts will describe Bill C-15\, the legislation the government of Canada is introducing to implement UNDRIP\, and explore the support and opposition to the Bill. \nPanelists\n \n\nPanel Moderator: Archbishop Mark MacDonald\, National Anglican Indigenous Bishop and WCC North American Vice-President;\n\n \n\nChief Wilton (Willie) Littlechild\, A Cree lawyer\, former member of Parliament and former Grand Chief of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations\, former member of Parliament\, and Commissioner to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission;\n\n \n\nProfessor Sheryl Lightfoot\, Canada Research Chair in Global Indigenous Rights and Politics\, UBC Associate Professor: First Nations and Indigenous Studies and Political Science;\n\n \n\nEllen Gabriel\, Mohawk activist and artist from Kanehsatà:ke Nation – Turtle Clan\, spokesperson chosen by the People of the Longhouse during the Oka Crisis.\n\nThe event will be in English with simultaneous French translation. \nEvent time\nThursday\, February 18\, 2021 \n\n4:00-5:30 p.m.\, Pacific Standard Time (PST)\n5:00-6:30 p.m.\, Mountain Standard Time (MST)\n6:00-7:30 p.m.\, Central Standard Time (CST)\n7:00-8:30 p.m.\, Eastern Standard Time (EST)\n8:00-9:30 p.m.\, Atlantic Standard Time (AST)\n8:30-10:00 p.m.\, Newfoundland Standard Time (NST)\n\nREGISTRATION

SUMMARY:What leadership for a Church in transformation?
DESCRIPTION:Presentation\nReligious leadership has been facing major challenges for several years. The decline in vocations\, the aging of consecrated persons\, the management of the material and spiritual heritage are all challenges that burden the reality of religious leadership. At the same time\, episcopal leadership is also facing similar challenges. The pandemic has catalyzed the awareness that we are called to being Church differently\, in an evolving synodality. \nBeyond questions of governance\, we can reflect upon the spiritual intelligence of leadership\, its styles and inspirations. How can religious and episcopal leadership mutually enrich one another? What are the post-pandemic perspectives for consecrated life and its place in the Church as a whole? \nThis webinar will begin with a socio-historical introduction on the transformations impacting the Church in Canada. We will then give the floor to a leader of men or women religious and a bishop to share their vision of leadership for a Church in transformation. \nAudience\nThe webinars are intended for members of the CRC and their leadership teams. Leaders of local communities can also participate. \nPanelists\n– Socio-historical perspective: Pr. E.-Martin Meunier\, Professor and holder of the Chaire de recherche Québec\, francophonie canadienne et mutations culturelles at the University of Ottawa\n– Leadership in consecrated life: Sr. Elizabeth Davis\, RSM\, Congregational Leader of the Sisters of Mercy of Newfoundland\n– Episcopal leadership: The Most Rev. Donald Bolen\, Archbishop of Regina \n \nPr. E.-Martin Meunier \n \nSr Elizabeth Davis\, RSM \n \nThe Most Rev. Donald Bolen \nProgram\n\nWelcome and prayer\nSocio-historical introduction\nLeadership in consecrated life\nEpiscopal leadership\nDialogue\, questions & answer period\nConclusion\n\nLOCAL TIMES: \nNewfoundland Standard Time (NST): from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.\nAtlantic Standard Time (AST): from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.\nEastern Standard Time (EST): from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.\nCentral Standard Time (CST): from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.\nMountain Standard Time (MST): from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.\nPacific Standard Time (PST): from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m \nAbout the CRC’s 2020-2021 programming\nFor the first time this year\, the CRC’s programming will be entirely online and interregional. The webinar approach will give CRC members an opportunity to meet differently\, and to have more discussions amongst members of different regions. \nThe webinars will open up spaces for discussions\, allowing for meaningful exchanges of ideas and new perspectives. They will equip members and take them on a common journey of discernment about the role of consecrated life in today’s world.

SUMMARY:Webinar: "Beyond GDP: Reimagining Economics for our Common Home"
DESCRIPTION:Presentation\nThis webinar is the first part of the series From Crisis to Care: Reimagining Economics for our Common Home. The climate crisis and global pandemic have made it starkly clear that old economic ideas are not working. To chart a new future\, we need to challenge the accepted idea that economic growth and gross domestic product (GDP) should be key societal goals. How might we reimagine and reorient economics to focus on care for each other and the Earth\, our common home? \nThis webinar series explores key problems caused by a fixation on economic growth\, particularly growth as measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP). \nThe climate crisis and global pandemic have made it starkly clear that current mainstream economic ideas are not working. To chart a new future\, we need to unlearn and transcend the accepted ideas that economic growth and gross domestic product (GDP) are what we should build our societies upon. \n\n\n\n\n\nGuest speaker \n\n\nDon’t miss this chance to hear Marilyn Waring\, world-renowned feminist\, former New Zealand politician\, author\, academic\, and activist for human rights and ecological issues. She will explore why growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) often results not in improvements to health and well-being\, but rather in greater ecological destruction and social inequality.\n\nRegistration (free event)\nREGISTER \nOrganizers\nAlternative Economics Working Group is part of the Ontario JPIC Lay Network and consists of four organizations: \n\nThe Jesuit Forum for Social Faith and Justice\nMinistry for Social Justice\, Peace\, and Creation Care with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto\nJPIC office of the Sisters of Providence\nJPIC office of the Congregation of Notre Dame (Visitation Province).

SUMMARY:CICLSAL Presentation: “The Gift of Fidelity and the Joy of Perseverance”
DESCRIPTION:The Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (CICLSAL) invites you to a presentation conference of the document: \nThe Gift of Fidelity and the Joy of Perseverance\n\nThis presentation will be held online on Thursday\, December 10\, 2020 (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time) live from the Antonianum Auditorium (via Manzoni\, 1 – Rome). \nIt will be live streaming on Internet: \n\nin English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVQoL5H0pDw\nin French: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Glw6KT0_LQ\nin Spanish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoQwo0kVjeI\nin Italian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh0DPzIHM5s\n\n \nPope Francis\, in the recent Encyclical Fratelli tutti\, invites us to dream together: “Here we have a splendid secret that shows us how to dream and to turn our life into a wonderful adventure. No one can face life in isolation… We need a community that supports and helps us\, in which we can help one another to keep looking ahead. How important it is to dream together…” (No 8). \nThe CICLSAL hopes that the presentation of this book will be a space to dream together of a more faithful\, joyful and persevering consecrated life. \nInformation: www.congregazionevitaconsacrata.va \nAbout\nThe Gift of Fidelity and the Joy of Perseverance is a document from the CICLSAL on the current difficulties of members and departures in Institutes of Consecrated Life as well as Secular Institutes. Its purpose is to elaborate and propose some indications regarding the accompaniment of sensitive situations\, but also to provide congregations with the norms of Canon Law and CICLSAL practices that must be respected in such situations. On a subject as delicate as leaving consecrated life\, it is important to offer both an attentive look and a sincere listening. Discernment of the person concerned\, of the accompanier and of the community is even more necessary than elsewhere.

SUMMARY:Towards New Communication Dynamics?
DESCRIPTION:Presentation\nThe recent pandemic has turned our daily lives upside down. Confinement and social distancing measures have impacted community relations. In that context\, most religious communities have been led to use or find new means of communication in order to break down the isolation and stay in touch.  \n\nHow do we communicate in religious communities?\nHow are leaders informed about what is going on in the community?\nHow can information be transmitted in a context of overloaded digital communications?\nLikewise\, how can the work be adapted to a new digital reality (videoconferencing\, digital fatigue\, etc.)?\nHow does technology change the models of communication according to the types of communities (monastic\, contemplative\, apostolic)?\nWhat are the impacts on community dynamism (international travel\, virtual vs. face-to-face meetings\, etc.)?\n\nThis webinar will be aimed at encouraging an exchange about the field of communication among leaders in order to identify the communication models existing in their congregation and the awareness that the pandemic has fostered. \nAudience\nThis Leaders’ Circle is intended for leaders of religious congregations as well as their leadership teams (or community councils). It is an opportunity for leaders and their leadership teams to meet and discuss matters of importance for consecrated life and religious congregations today. \nProgram\n\nWelcome and prayer\nIntroduction to the topic\nPart 1 – The impact of confinement on communication within communities\nPart 2 – Existing and emerging communication models\nConclusion\n\nLOCAL TIMES: \nNewfoundland Standard Time (NST) from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.\nAtlantic Standard Time (AST) from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.\nEastern Standard Time (EST) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.\nCentral Standard Time (CST) from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.\nMountain Standard Time (MST) from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.\nPacific Standard Time (PST) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. \nContact: mission@crc-canada.org \nAbout the CRC’s 2020-2021 programming\nFor the first time this year\, the CRC’s programming will be entirely online and interregional. The webinar approach will give us an opportunity to meet differently\, and to have more discussions amongst members of different regions. \nThe webinars will open up spaces for discussions\, allowing for meaningful exchanges of ideas and new perspectives. They will equip us and take us on a common journey of discernment about the role of consecrated life in today’s world.

SUMMARY:A Just Future for All Webinar: Resisting a democracy recession
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, November 24 at 2:00 pm (ET)\, as Fr. Xavier Jeyaraj\, SJ\, talks about the alarming transformation of democracy in the world with the election of authoritarian regimes into office. His presentation will focus on India\, the world’s largest democracy\, with parallels drawn with changes taking place in Latin America\, Asia\, Africa and North America. Fr. Xavier will also speak of how justice\, equality\, human rights\, and “development for all” are being redefined by authoritarian governments all over the world. \nWe are in a critical time today\, not simply because of COVID-19\, but because of the state of many democracies around the world. According to renowned scholar\, Larry Diamond\, “we have been going through a democracy recession” and the pandemic is “deepening and accelerating the recession.” \nWhile this trend is alarming\, we also find hope in the voices heard through public protest demanding alternative models of society. The courage of people\, particularly young people\, who oppose the democratically elected ‘dictators\,’ demanding a JUST FUTURE FOR ALL\, can lead to transformative changes for a future built on love\, equality and justice. \nThis webinar is co-sponsored by: \n\nCampion College at the University of Regina\nRegis College\, The Jesuit School of Theology at the University of Toronto\nSt Mark’s College at the University of British Colombia\nSt Paul’s College at the University of Manitoba\nUniversité de Sudbury/University of Sudbury\n\n \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Governance of religious congregations: Realities\, impasses and ways forward
DESCRIPTION:Presentation\nIn recent years\, the demographics of religious congregations have evolved rapidly. The accelerating decrease in number of members has led to significant capacity gaps. \nSeveral congregations are struggling to find people who are willing to take on leadership roles and ensure renewal within this function. SUMMARY:The psychological effects of confinement: Rebuilding communion and relationships
DESCRIPTION:Presentation\nThe confinement has tested community relations and the psychological well-being of several religious community members. It became apparent that some community members had been experiencing isolation long before the pandemic. Others lost their joyfulness and zest for life. The preventative isolation also increased the vulnerability of people suffering from cognitive impairments. \nAs a leader\, how can one help and support those most affected by these challenging times (relationships cut off\, grief\, changes to community life)? What processes could help communities name and overcome the psychological after-effects of the pandemic? How can faith help overcome a traumatic episode? \nThe objective of this webinar is to provide reference points for leaders who find themselves in this situation and help them in renewing community relationships. It follows up on the psychological impacts of the confinement which leaders mentioned during the May 2020 Zoom meetings and recent September webinars. \nGuest speaker\n \nFr. Daniel Renaud\, OMI\, member of the September 2020 webinar panel\, will join us again to offer some psycho-spiritual insights on the psychological impacts of the confinement shared by leaders. \nProgram\n\nWelcome and prayer\nOverview of the psychological effects of confinement followed by a discussion amongst participants \nPsycho-spiritual insights on the psychological impacts and paths for renewing and nurturing community relationships\nQuestions\, answers & comments period\nConclusion\n\nLOCAL TIMES: \nNewfoundland Daylight Time (NDT): from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.\nAtlantic Daylight Time (ADT): from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.\nEastern Daylight Time (EDT): from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.\nCentral Daylight Time (CDT): from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.\nMountain Daylight Time (MDT): from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.\nPacific Daylight Time (PDT): from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m \nAbout the CRC’s 2020-2021 programming\nFor the first time this year\, the CRC’s programming will be entirely online and interregional. Not only\, but we ourselves\, who have the first fruits of the Spirit\, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship\, the redemption of our bodies.” \nRomans 8:22-23 \n“… because of the exuberance of life and the longing to live; to express a passionate vision of the Earth\, and to seek an answer to the questions of my activity\, because I love the Universe\, its energies\, its secrets\, its hopes and because at the same time I am consecrated to God\, the only Origin\, the only End.”\nTeilhard de Chardin \nProgram\nMODULE 1 : Fundamental concepts of leadership\nLet us begin this journey together\, exploring some personal experiences of leadership and reaping the wisdom they offer. Let us become familiar with some fundamental concepts of leadership: role\, system\, purpose\, authority\, power… \nMODULE 2: There is no one way\, but we make our way when we walk \nWhat does it mean to exercise the leadership of consecrated life at this turbulent moment history\, in the world\, in the Church and in our congregations? \nMODULE 3: Weaving Communion\nAs leaders\, we are called to grow more and more in the capacity for dialogue\, non-violent communication\, managing difference in relationships\, generative listening… \nMODULE 4: For I know well the Spring that flows and runs\, although it is night \nHow is this leadership service that I live\, day by day; what is sacred space and transparency of encounter with God? \nMODULE 5: The poor teach us to read the gospel\nIn consecrated life\, can we be leaders and prophets at the same time? \nThe five Modules that make up this Program are full of questions. Our job will not be to respond to them\, but rather to develop an approach\, to acquire a mindset\, to integrate concepts that help us to explore them and to use them as a resource. \n \nSource: UISG

I am from India and has been living in Zambia since 1988 walking with people on the margins (involved in Training for Transformation programme). They have been an inspiration to me. \nAfter serving on the Congregational Leadership Team I returned to Zambia end of 2013. Since then together with the local community and the Presentation Sisters initiated the Garden of Oneness: A Sanctuary of Peace and Harmony holding the Sacredness and Oneness of all Life. Currently I am living and working in this Garden of Oneness in a rural area of Western Zambia. \nContribution:\nResidents $550\nCommunters $400\nMake cheques payable to Jericho House \nPoster\n\n\n \nDownload the presentation of Sr. Terry Abraham

SUMMARY:Laudato Si’: heeding the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor five years on
DESCRIPTION:On May 24th\, 2015\, Pope Francis published Laudato Si’\, an encyclical on care for our common home\, thereby inviting the Church and the whole world to an urgent reflection and consistent action in all aspects of human life. Laudato Si' no. 16 \nTo reflect on the five-year journey since Laudato Si’ and its prophetic calls\, the CRC\, in collaboration with Development and Peace\, invites you to a webinar next Saturday. \n \nFREE PARTICIPATION \nREGISTRATION REQUIRED \nREGISTRATION \nOrganized by Development and Peace – Caritas Canada\, the CRC and GCCM – Canada \nGuest panelists \n\nStephen Bede Scharper\nAssociate Professor of Environment at the University Toronto\nToronto Star columnist\nSr. Sue Wilson\, CSJ\nOffice for Systemic Justice\nFederation of Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada\nRebecca Rathbone\nAnimator for Southwest Ontario and Caritas Youth Leader\nDevelopment and Peace – Caritas Canada\nAgnes Richard\nCoordinator\nGCCM – Canada\n\nModerated by Kelly Di Domenico\, Director of Communications and Campaigns\, Development and Peace – Caritas Canada.
