SUMMARY:Integral Ecology projects
DESCRIPTION:Over the past months\, the CRC has been approached by several entities to participate as a partner in three projects around consecrated life in Canada. As such\, the CRC is proposing a series of webinars so that its members can be made aware of these projects and collaborate on them if they so wish \nThese webinars will be an opportunity for the promoters of these projects to give all the information related to their realization and to answer possible questions. \nIt is in this perspective that the CRC is organizing a new information meeting concerning this time two projects pertaining to integral ecology that are closely related\, and that are promoted by religious congregations: \n\nThe School of Integral Ecology at Saint-Paul University (SPU) would create academic programs dedicated to the study and advancement of the synthesis of integral ecology from Laudato Si’\, within the institutional framework of a recognized Catholic university. This project comes from several years of discernment and effort by a group of Canadian Congregations\, in partnership with SPU.\n\nDOWNLOAD THE PRESENTATION \n\nThe Office of Religious Congregations for Integral Ecology (ORCIE) will enable Catholic religious congregations to enhance their capacity to work collaboratively to increase their impact on policy change towards social and ecological justice at national and international levels; the type of systemic change called for in Laudato Si’. This office won’t take the place of JPIC work that’s already happening. Rather\, it will aim to make this work more effective and collaborative on a limited number of issues.\n\nDOWNLOAD THE PRESENTATION \nWhile the two projects are separate\, both draw on the whole-making works of Congregations in education\, justice and advocacy both past and present. \nThis webinar\, which will take place on Wednesday\, June 23 at 1:30 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time)\, will be hosted by several guest speakers:  \n\nFor the School of Integral Ecology: Sr. Margo Ritchie\, CSJ\, Congregational Leader of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada\, Dr. Chantal Beauvais\, rector of SPU and Dr. Heather Eaton\, professor at SPU.\n\n \nSr. Margo Ritchie\, CSJ \n \nDr. Chantal Beauvais \n \nDr. Heather Eaton \n\nFor ORCIE: Sr. Sue Wilson\, CSJ\, Director of the Office for Systemic Justice of the Federation of Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada and Mr. Joe Gunn\, Executive Director of the Oblate Center at SPU.\n\n \nSr. Sue Wilson\, CSJ \n \nJoe Gunn \nFrench-English simultaneous interpretation will be provided during this webinar. \nPlease note that this webinar is intended for CRC members and their leadership teams. \nMore information about these projects will be available in the next days.

SUMMARY:COURSE: "Church and Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples: Framing the Ecclesial and Theological Questions"
DESCRIPTION:Course #\nTHO 3194/ 6302 \nCourse facilitators\nProf. Peter Bisson\, S.J.\nProf. Michel Andraos \nCourse description\nThe Faculty of Theology at Saint Paul University is offering an intensive summer course on the churches and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. The focus of the course is to provide a brief historical background and an update on the state of the reconciliation process\, and to frame the present pastoral and theological questions and challenges as well as the progress made since the final report of the TRC and the Calls to Action. Substitutions are acceptable at any time. \nKeynote Speakers and Facilitator\nKeynote Speaker #1: Dr. David Dean of Atlantic School of Theology \n \n“Crossing Boundaries: The Holy Spirit and the formation of Christ’s Body” \nDr. David Deane will speak about the baptismal life as a life lived in relationship with the Holy Spirit. He will focus on some key moments in scripture\, which show what the relationship with the Holy Spirit is like. He will also unpack Hildegard of Bingen’s understanding of how we live out our vocation through a process where the Holy Spirit pollinates our natural gifts. The goal will be for participants to come to a greater understanding of how the Christian life\, in terms of their roles in faith formation\, social justice\, evangelism\, or any other role\, is a life lived in relationship with the Holy Spirit in a very intimate way. \nDr. David Deane is Associate Professor of Theology at Atlantic School of Theology. His books include “Nietzsche and Theology” and “Resisting the Tyranny of the Banal”\, which is forthcoming with Fortress/Lexington Academic. A former fellow of the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences\, he has written for The Times of London\, The Irish Times\, and The Irish Independent. He lives in Dartmouth\, Nova Scotia\, with his wife Jennifer\, and daughters\, Sophia (14)\, Chora (12)\, and Àine\, 7. \nKeynote Speaker #2: Sister Margo Ritchie\, CSJ of London\, Ontario \n \nWhere is This Place Called ‘Here’-The Adjacent Possible? \nBorrowing a phrase from Irish poet Padraig O Tuama\, Margo will begin to describe the landscape of this place called ‘here’ as a starting point for conversation among us. How we name this place called ‘here’ influences what we see…and what we don’t see.  Through the lens of call she will explore with us the image of the “adjacent possible”. \nSr. Margo Ritchie\, CSJ \nMargo is a Sister of St. Joseph whose life has taken her from teaching high school to being a co-director of a home for women in transition\, to the work of spiritual direction at a retreat house in London. Her service now is the very interesting work of leadership within her Congregation. \nShe cares about making the world a more hospitable place for everyone and learning ways to live more humanly together. \nKeynote Speaker #3: Father Daniel Horan\, OFM of Chicago \n \nDiscernment\, Vocation\, and Formation in the Thought of Pope Francis \nIn keeping with the vision of a universal call to holiness expressed in the documents of the Second Vatican Council\, Pope Francis has frequently written and spoken about need to attend to discernment in the lives of all the baptized. Recognizing consecrated religious life and ministerial priesthood as subsets of a broader theology of vocation\, this presentation explores what the pope’s contributions to the themes of discernment and vocation have to offer to renewed consideration of religious formation and vocation ministries. \nDaniel P. Horan\, OFM\, PhD is the Duns Scotus Professor of Spirituality at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago\, where he teaches systematic theology and spirituality\, a columnist for the National Catholic Reporter\, and the author of hundreds of articles and more than twelve books\, including Catholicity and Emerging Personhood: A Contemporary Theological Anthropology(Orbis Books\, 2019)\, which received the 2020 First Place Award for Theology Book from the Association of Catholic Publishers. Among his forthcoming books due out later this year are A White Catholic’s Guide to Racism and Privilege and The Way of the Franciscans: A Prayer Journey Through Lent. Fr. Daniel regularly lectures around the United States and abroad; serves on a number of university\, academic\, and publication editorial boards\, including the St. Bonaventure University Board of Trustees\, the Franciscan School of Theology Board of Regents\, and the Board of Directors of the International Thomas Merton Society. He is co-host of The Francis Effect Podcast. For information\, visit www.DanHoran.com \nOur Facilitator: Sr. Elizabeth Davis\, RSM\, PhD \n \nElizabeth Davis is the Congregational Leader of the Sisters of Mercy of Newfoundland and Labrador.  In that role\, she has special leadership responsibilities for St. Patrick’s Mercy Home\, The Gathering Place\, and Mercy Centre for Ecology and Justice.  She has been a high school teacher and a health care administrator.  She has recently completed doctoral studies in Scripture at the University of Toronto. Among her awards are membership in the Order of Canada and the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador as well as honorary doctoral degrees from Memorial University of Newfoundland and the University of Manitoba. \nUpdate from our U.S. Counterparts: \nSr. Deborah Borneman\, SS.C.M.\, MDiv\, MA is the Executive Director of Member Relations and Services at the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC). She will bring us up to date on the activities of vocation ministry in the USA. \nSr. Ellen Dauwer\, SC\, PhD is a Sister of Charity (Convent Station\, NJ) and serves as Executive Director of the Religious Formation Conference\, (RFC). She will be on hand to give us an update on formation activities in the United States. \nWorkshop Session Details\nDue to our online format\, participants will be able to attend all 9 workshops if desired. \n1.The Dawning Future of Religious Life: Germinating and Radiating – Brenda Peddigrew\, RSM\, PhD\nAlthough we see a significant diminishing of numbers in our Canadian ways of living religious life\, and many of our familiar Congregations are coming to conscious completion\, it is most important at this time to recognize and attend to the deep and abiding influences that our Congregations have had and still have. Instead of “ending” we are really in “germination”\, and our good influence in the world continues to radiate wherever we are or have been. The soul of this workshop is the recognition and practice of seeing how the heart of religious life continues in different forms\, and will continue long after traditional forms have transformed. \n2. Do Monkeys Go to Heaven? The Beauty and Wisdom of Faith and Science – Rev. John W. McCarthy\, SJ\, PhD\nThere persists a seemingly widespread notion that religious faith and empirical science must\, by necessity\, be in conflict. Yet as many contemporary scholars of the history of science tell us\, the relationship is much more complex than that. \nProperly understood\, science and religion are not in conflict but act as fruitful partners in a healthy dialogue that seeks the truth of the fullness of human experience.  Placing biological evolution in dialogue with the Christian theology of creation\, we will examine the wisdom and beauty of science and faith.  We will consider the vast\, wondrous world of “both/and” rather than the limited\, oppressive world of “either/or.” Both science and faith deal with data – albeit data of a different character and quality.  Both scientific and theological/philosophical inquiry need to be taken seriously.  It is in charitable and welcoming dialogue that any semblance of truth may be attained. \n3. Formation that Nurtures Transformative Servant Leadership – Sr. Miriam K. Martin\, PBVM\, PhD\nI have meaningful and challenging conversations both within my NL Province and the larger International Presentation Congregation about formation for emerging leaders within our groups. It is evident that leadership development for religious life and ministry is nurtured in initial formation. In these evolving times within religious life\, mature human development and a commitment to a communal way of life play a significant role in drawing persons into living and leading with depth\, authenticity\, and creativity. This is a movement towards transformative servant leadership. \n4. Christus Vivit:  From Paper to Practice – Santo Arrigo\, C.Ss.R.\nExploring the gift and essence of the Apostolic Exhortation to Young People\, Christus Vivit\, and applying the scope and vision as a pastoral and missionary priority within the context of a religious congregation in Canada. \n5. Who are our Newest Members? A Look at Millennials and Gen Z – Sr. Ellen Dauwer\, SC\, PhD\nThis presentation will begin with an overall look at the two most recent generations: Millennials and Gen Zeders. It will then focus on Catholics in these generations and conclude with a look at characteristics of members of these generations who are entering religious life. CARA and Pew research will form the foundation of the presentation. \n6. Catechetical Formation of Candidates for Religious Life: Challenges and Opportunities – Tony Bidgood\, C.Ss.R.\, MDiv\nIn the presentation\, Fr. Tony will give a description of the conditions of belief in 21st– Century secular Canada\, with a focus on the opportunities posed by this time to the catechetical formation of candidates for religious life. \n7. Together for Mission: Formation of Associates of Religious Institutes – Anne Walsh\, DMin\nIn this presentation\, we will explore charisms as gifts of the Holy Spirit to the Church. Together\, we will explore the dimensions of charism\, and ask how new vision and understanding might lead us to new possibilities for identifying\, inviting\, forming and calling associates to greater missionary involvement. \n8.“Done Made My Vow To The Lord: The Vocational Call of Sister Thea Bowman\, FSPA” – Maurice J. Nutt\, C.Ss.R.\nThis workshop takes a deep dive into the conversion to Catholicism\, acceptance\, challenges\, and perseverance of the vocational journey of Servant of God Sister Thea Bowman\, FSPA. Sister Thea was multi-vocational as a teacher\, preacher\, singer\, and evangelist.  We explore her conviction to fully live the calling of religious life in an authentic way as an apologetically black woman while promoting intercultural awareness and advocating for racial reconciliation within the Catholic Church and beyond. \n9. Due Diligence in Vocation Ministry – Sr. Deborah Borneman\, SS.C.M.\, MDiv\, MA \nVocation ministers have the right to gather the data they need for due diligence in candidate assessment yet safeguard the candidate’s right to minimal intrusion. This workshop is designed to update participants on the trends\, best practices\, and challenges of contemporary vocation ministry. Using a case study approach\, participants will delve deeper into candidate issues that delay or preclude admission. Topics include the demographics to consider when inviting discerners and the latest research on newer members. \nThis will be a wonderful conference and the Planning Committee and the Board are delighted to welcome you to this exciting gathering. \nIf you have any questions\, feel free to contact: Sr Nancy Sullivan\, Executive Director of NAVFD at navfdco@gmail.com \nREGISTRATION FORM \nBROCHURE

SUMMARY:Webinar “Canada\, the Churches\, and Bill C-15”
DESCRIPTION:Information on the Federal Bill C-15 \nIn March 2016\, the Canadian Religious Conference (CRC)\, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB)\, the Canadian Catholic Aboriginal Council\, and Caritas Canada – Development and Peace signed a joint declaration\, in answer to Call to Action 48 (CTA 48) of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. CTA 48 called on all faith groups in Canada to “formally adopt and comply with the principles\, norms\, and standards of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) as a framework for reconciliation.” The UNDRIP was passed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007\, and the Holy See Permanent Observer to the UN has explicitly endorsed this Declaration on numerous occasions. \nOn December 3rd\, 2020\, the Honorable David Lametti\, Federal Minister of Justice\, introduced Bill C-15\, which would require the Government of Canada\, in consultation and cooperation with Indigenous peoples\, to take all measures necessary to ensure that the laws of Canada are consistent with the rights of Indigenous peoples set out in the UNDRIP. Bill C-15 reflects Bill C-262 and takes it further. C-262 had been introduced by NPD MP Romeo Saganash in 2016 and was adopted by a majority of federal MPs\, only to be blocked by Conservative Senators in 2019. \nThe support of Churches\, institutes of consecrated life and organizations who answered CTA 48 is requested for Bill C-15. In order to present in more detail the bill of law\, its consequences for Indigenous Peoples in Canada\, and its next steps\, you are invited to a webinar. \nFor more information : \n\nCatholic response to CTA 48: https://crc-canada.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Catholic-Response-Call-to-Action-48.pdf\nInformation and invitation to support Bill C-15: https://www.faithinthedeclaration.ca/\n\nThe webinar\nFebruary 18 at 7:00 pm (EST) there will be a learning event “Canada\, the Churches\, and Bill C-15” sponsored by “Faith in the Declaration”: A coalition of faith houses and organizations in support of UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples legislation. \nThe event will include conversation on why The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples legislation is important to Canadian churches. A panel of experts will describe Bill C-15\, the legislation the government of Canada is introducing to implement UNDRIP\, and explore the support and opposition to the Bill. \nPanelists\n \n\nPanel Moderator: Archbishop Mark MacDonald\, National Anglican Indigenous Bishop and WCC North American Vice-President;\n\n \n\nChief Wilton (Willie) Littlechild\, A Cree lawyer\, former member of Parliament and former Grand Chief of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations\, former member of Parliament\, and Commissioner to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission;\n\n \n\nProfessor Sheryl Lightfoot\, Canada Research Chair in Global Indigenous Rights and Politics\, UBC Associate Professor: First Nations and Indigenous Studies and Political Science;\n\n \n\nEllen Gabriel\, Mohawk activist and artist from Kanehsatà:ke Nation – Turtle Clan\, spokesperson chosen by the People of the Longhouse during the Oka Crisis.\n\nThe event will be in English with simultaneous French translation. \nEvent time\nThursday\, February 18\, 2021 \n\n4:00-5:30 p.m.\, Pacific Standard Time (PST)\n5:00-6:30 p.m.\, Mountain Standard Time (MST)\n6:00-7:30 p.m.\, Central Standard Time (CST)\n7:00-8:30 p.m.\, Eastern Standard Time (EST)\n8:00-9:30 p.m.\, Atlantic Standard Time (AST)\n8:30-10:00 p.m.\, Newfoundland Standard Time (NST)\n\nREGISTRATION

SUMMARY:What leadership for a Church in transformation?
DESCRIPTION:Presentation\nReligious leadership has been facing major challenges for several years. The decline in vocations\, the aging of consecrated persons\, the management of the material and spiritual heritage are all challenges that burden the reality of religious leadership. At the same time\, episcopal leadership is also facing similar challenges. The pandemic has catalyzed the awareness that we are called to being Church differently\, in an evolving synodality. \nBeyond questions of governance\, we can reflect upon the spiritual intelligence of leadership\, its styles and inspirations. How can religious and episcopal leadership mutually enrich one another? What are the post-pandemic perspectives for consecrated life and its place in the Church as a whole? \nThis webinar will begin with a socio-historical introduction on the transformations impacting the Church in Canada. We will then give the floor to a leader of men or women religious and a bishop to share their vision of leadership for a Church in transformation. \nAudience\nThe webinars are intended for members of the CRC and their leadership teams. Leaders of local communities can also participate. \nPanelists\n– Socio-historical perspective: Pr. E.-Martin Meunier\, Professor and holder of the Chaire de recherche Québec\, francophonie canadienne et mutations culturelles at the University of Ottawa\n– Leadership in consecrated life: Sr. Elizabeth Davis\, RSM\, Congregational Leader of the Sisters of Mercy of Newfoundland\n– Episcopal leadership: The Most Rev. SUMMARY:Webinar: "Beyond GDP: Reimagining Economics for our Common Home"
DESCRIPTION:Presentation\nThis webinar is the first part of the series From Crisis to Care: Reimagining Economics for our Common Home. The climate crisis and global pandemic have made it starkly clear that old economic ideas are not working. To chart a new future\, we need to challenge the accepted idea that economic growth and gross domestic product (GDP) should be key societal goals. How might we reimagine and reorient economics to focus on care for each other and the Earth\, our common home? \nThis webinar series explores key problems caused by a fixation on economic growth\, particularly growth as measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP). \nThe climate crisis and global pandemic have made it starkly clear that current mainstream economic ideas are not working. To chart a new future\, we need to unlearn and transcend the accepted ideas that economic growth and gross domestic product (GDP) are what we should build our societies upon. \n\n\n\n\n\nGuest speaker \n\n\nDon’t miss this chance to hear Marilyn Waring\, world-renowned feminist\, former New Zealand politician\, author\, academic\, and activist for human rights and ecological issues. She will explore why growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) often results not in improvements to health and well-being\, but rather in greater ecological destruction and social inequality.\n\nRegistration (free event)\nREGISTER \nOrganizers\nAlternative Economics Working Group is part of the Ontario JPIC Lay Network and consists of four organizations: \n\nThe Jesuit Forum for Social Faith and Justice\nMinistry for Social Justice\, Peace\, and Creation Care with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto\nJPIC office of the Sisters of Providence\nJPIC office of the Congregation of Notre Dame (Visitation Province).

SUMMARY:CICLSAL Presentation: “The Gift of Fidelity and the Joy of Perseverance”
DESCRIPTION:The Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (CICLSAL) invites you to a presentation conference of the document: \nThe Gift of Fidelity and the Joy of Perseverance\n\nThis presentation will be held online on Thursday\, December 10\, 2020 (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time) live from the Antonianum Auditorium (via Manzoni\, 1 – Rome). \nIt will be live streaming on Internet: \n\nin English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVQoL5H0pDw\nin French: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Glw6KT0_LQ\nin Spanish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoQwo0kVjeI\nin Italian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh0DPzIHM5s\n\n \nPope Francis\, in the recent Encyclical Fratelli tutti\, invites us to dream together: “Here we have a splendid secret that shows us how to dream and to turn our life into a wonderful adventure. No one can face life in isolation… We need a community that supports and helps us\, in which we can help one another to keep looking ahead. How important it is to dream together…” (No 8). \nThe CICLSAL hopes that the presentation of this book will be a space to dream together of a more faithful\, joyful and persevering consecrated life. \nInformation: www.congregazionevitaconsacrata.va \nAbout\nThe Gift of Fidelity and the Joy of Perseverance is a document from the CICLSAL on the current difficulties of members and departures in Institutes of Consecrated Life as well as Secular Institutes. Its purpose is to elaborate and propose some indications regarding the accompaniment of sensitive situations\, but also to provide congregations with the norms of Canon Law and CICLSAL practices that must be respected in such situations. On a subject as delicate as leaving consecrated life\, it is important to offer both an attentive look and a sincere listening. Discernment of the person concerned\, of the accompanier and of the community is even more necessary than elsewhere.
