SUMMARY:CRC webinar - Governance... a toolbox
DESCRIPTION:Context and presentation \nThere are words and expressions that we hear so often\, they end up putting us off.  GOVERNANCE falls into this category. \nSo\, why come back to it? Because we must! Because it’s vital! Experiencing an Institute’s journey of completion is the stage of revisiting the fruits of a charism with a view to passing on a legacy. Some of our Institutes have already done this\, and are emerging with a real sense of serenity. \nOver the past few years\, the CRC has offered you webinars on this theme\, to help you situate your Institute’s reality in this process of completion that marks the life of so many institutes. \nToday\, we invite you to join us on Wednesday\, November 29\, for the unveiling of our governance “toolbox”: the result of work carried out jointly with competent individuals and services dedicated to supporting you. \nIn this upcoming webinar\, we’ll take you through the stages of a journey that could enable your Congregation to enter a governance service “transformation” process. Terms will be clarified and aids identified.  Don’t miss it! \nPanelists \n\nAlain Ambeault\, CSV\, Executive Director CRC\nDanielle Julien\, FMIC\, Executive Assistant – Mission CRC\n\nFor whom ? \n\nMembers of the CRC\nLeadership teams\n\nRegistration \nRegistration by e-mail is required to participate in this webinar.  Please click on the button below to register.  Note that there is no registration fee for this activity. \nMY REGISTRATION \nRegistration deadline: Monday\, November 27\, 2023. \n  \nIf you have any trouble registering\, please send an email to administration@crc-canada.org to request registration. SUMMARY:From fragility to grace : Vulnerability as a space of transformations
DESCRIPTION:National webinar with simultaneous translation\nWednesday\, September 28\, 2022\nfrom 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 pm. (EDT) \nContext and presentation \nDuring the year 2021-2022\, the CRC offered programming including several webinars exploring the themes of charism\, prophetism\, and issues concerning the future of consecrated life (leadership\, governance\, statistics). From these discussions\, an important concept emerged: vulnerability. Consecrated persons experience it in various ways\, whether it be vulnerability associated with aging\, questions about community life and the mission of the Church\, the wounds stemming from abuse and scandals\, or pressing social and global issues\, vulnerability underlies the impetus for transformation. It can be a space for grace\, if we approach it with honesty and openness to the Spirit. \nAs we begin the 2022-2023 programming year (leading up to the General Assembly)\, the CRC wants to allow its members to explore this notion of vulnerability\, which is essential to the journey ahead. Interestingly\, vulnerability is at the heart of several recent reflections: Pope Francis addressing the UISG (Vatican News article)\, a speaker at the UISG (click here for text)\, and an article in the LCWR journal (click here for text). We are listening to the signs of the times! \nObjectives \nThis national webinar aims to :\n• Deepen the notion of vulnerability though several perspectives from the Bible\, theology\, psycho-spiritual accompaniment and the reality of consecrated life;\n• To approach vulnerability as a place where tensions call for transormation;\n• To invite a new outlook of creativity that can yield grace. \nPanelists \nA panel of frour speakers will contribute to this event.\n• Sr. Gill Goulding\, CJ\, Member of the Theological Commission\, will explore vulnerability as theological and relational notion;\n• Br. Daniel Cadrin\, OP\, Member of the Theological Commission\, will consider vulnerabilities at play in the Church and in consecrated life;\n• André Myre\, Professor emeritus of exegesis\, will offer renewed insights into the vulnerability of Jesus and what it calls us to;\n• Estelle Drouvin\, General Coordinator of the Montreal-based Centre for restorative justice services and spiritual counselor\, will discuss the role of vulnerability in the human journey. \nProgram \nThis webinar will be an opportunity to experience a different activity format. The majority of the time will be spent on the panel with light breaks. There will be no plenary session during the webinar. However\, for an in-depth discussion\, the CRC invites you to save the dates of Tuesday\, October 11 (in French only) and Thursday\, October 13 (in English only) for a post-webinar sharing circle\, at the usual time slot of 11:00 am to 12:30 pm (EDT). You will receive an invitation for these circles after the September 28 webinar. \nFor whom ? \n• Members of the CRC\n• Leadership teams\n• Any interested consecrated person (please pass on this invitation to your sisters and brothers) \nLocal Times:\nNewfoundland Daylight Time (NDT): from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.\nAtlantic Daylight Time (ADT): from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.\nEastern Daylight Time (EDT): from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.\nCentral Daylight Time (CDT): from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.\nMountain Daylight Time (MDT): from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.\nPacific Daylight Time (PDT): from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. \nContact : mission@crc-canada.org \nThe Team of the Canadian Religious Conference

SUMMARY:Leadership and Governance of Institutes: Update and next steps
DESCRIPTION:National webinar\nwith simultaneous translation\nContext\n\nOn November 10\, 2020\, the CRC held a Leaders’ Circle on the governance of religious congregations. One of the most pressing issues identified by participants was the shortage\, within religious institutes\, of members willing and able to take on leadership roles. \nTo follow up on the Leaders’ Circle\, the CRC undertook a consultation in 2021\, in Canada and abroad\, to better circumscribe the issue and identify existing options as well as alternative solutions in development. \nIt is now time to look at where our journey has taken us so far and explore ways to continue going forward. \n\nContent of the webinar\n\nThe 2021 consultation allowed us to appreciate the exceptional work accomplished by some institutes in Canada who\, for several years\, have worked to develop collaborative approaches and to proactively set up organizations that to support institutes with their leadership and governance challenges. Institutes in Canada can therefore count on an unprecedented degree of expertise and structured resources when compared with the countries we consulted. \nAt the same time\, expertise and resources function only in the context of the community discernment of an institute and are never a substitute for it. Identifying and developing leadership and governance ‘models’ or solutions must therefore go hand in hand with a reflection on the community discernment of religious institutes on the issues they face. \nThe webinar’s program will therefore comprise: \n\n\nA short presentation on the state of the question and the results of the 2021 consultation\nA discussion period\, first in small groups and then in plenary\, on the challenges community discernment poses for leaders\, and how the CRC can help them overcome these challenges.\n\nFor whom?\n\nMembers of the CRC \nLeadership teams\n\nLocal Times \nNewfoundland Daylight Time (NDT): from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.\nAtlantic Daylight Time (ADT): from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.\nEastern Daylight Time (EDT): from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.\nCentral Daylight Time (CDT): from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.\nMountain Daylight Time (MDT): from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.\nPacific Daylight Time (PDT): from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. \nContact: mission@crc-canada.org

SUMMARY:Interpreting the statistics of consecrated life in Canada
DESCRIPTION:In 2021\, the CRC conducted a statistical survey on consecrated life in Canada. The results of this survey\, available on the CRC website\, were presented at the 2021 General Assembly. In order to pursue this reflection on the statistical results\, we are pleased to organize a webinar that will address the possibilities of interpretation of these results\, as well as the questions and challenges that they raise. \nObjectives\nThis national webinar aims to:  \n\nExplore possible interpretations of the statistical study results;\nProvide a space for CRC members and their leadership teams to reflect on issues related to these interpretations;\nconnect these reflections to the process initiated at the last General Assembly and to the journey made since then;\nfuel the work of the CRC staff in anticipation of the upcoming programming and the 2023 General Assembly.\n\nSpeaker\nAs part of this process\, the CRC is pleased to collaborate with Sister Virginie Lecourt\, Xavière. A demographer by training\, Sister Virginie is currently working at the Université de Montréal on research ethics and responsible research conduct. She is also a lecturer at HEC Montréal for courses in ethics. \nProgram\nAfter a brief contextualization of the webinar’s objectives\, Sister Virginie Lecourt will propose interpretations along several insights. \nAfterwards\, participants will be invited to discuss in sub-groups around two questions arising from the insights presented. \nA plenary session will conclude this webinar. \nIn addition\, we invite you to read or re-read the results of the CRC’s 2020 statistical study by clicking on the button below.  \nDOWNLOAD THE SUMMARY OF THE STUDY \nFor whom?\n\nMembers of the CRC\nLeadership teams\nAny consecrated person interested \n\nLocal Times\nNewfoundland Daylight Time (NDT): from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.\nAtlantic Daylight Time (ADT): from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.\nEastern Daylight Time (EDT): from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.\nCentral Daylight Time (CDT): from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.\nMountain Daylight Time (MDT): from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.\nPacific Daylight Time (PDT): from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. \nContact: communications@crc-canada.org

SUMMARY:Integral Ecology projects
DESCRIPTION:Over the past months\, the CRC has been approached by several entities to participate as a partner in three projects around consecrated life in Canada. As such\, the CRC is proposing a series of webinars so that its members can be made aware of these projects and collaborate on them if they so wish \nThese webinars will be an opportunity for the promoters of these projects to give all the information related to their realization and to answer possible questions. \nIt is in this perspective that the CRC is organizing a new information meeting concerning this time two projects pertaining to integral ecology that are closely related\, and that are promoted by religious congregations: \n\nThe School of Integral Ecology at Saint-Paul University (SPU) would create academic programs dedicated to the study and advancement of the synthesis of integral ecology from Laudato Si’\, within the institutional framework of a recognized Catholic university. This project comes from several years of discernment and effort by a group of Canadian Congregations\, in partnership with SPU.\n\nDOWNLOAD THE PRESENTATION \n\nThe Office of Religious Congregations for Integral Ecology (ORCIE) will enable Catholic religious congregations to enhance their capacity to work collaboratively to increase their impact on policy change towards social and ecological justice at national and international levels; the type of systemic change called for in Laudato Si’. This office won’t take the place of JPIC work that’s already happening. Rather\, it will aim to make this work more effective and collaborative on a limited number of issues.\n\nDOWNLOAD THE PRESENTATION \nWhile the two projects are separate\, both draw on the whole-making works of Congregations in education\, justice and advocacy both past and present. \nThis webinar\, which will take place on Wednesday\, June 23 at 1:30 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time)\, will be hosted by several guest speakers:  \n\nFor the School of Integral Ecology: Sr. Margo Ritchie\, CSJ\, Congregational Leader of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada\, Dr. Chantal Beauvais\, rector of SPU and Dr. Heather Eaton\, professor at SPU.\n\n \nSr. Margo Ritchie\, CSJ \n \nDr. Chantal Beauvais \n \nDr. Heather Eaton \n\nFor ORCIE: Sr. Sue Wilson\, CSJ\, Director of the Office for Systemic Justice of the Federation of Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada and Mr. Joe Gunn\, Executive Director of the Oblate Center at SPU.\n\n \nSr. Sue Wilson\, CSJ \n \nJoe Gunn \nFrench-English simultaneous interpretation will be provided during this webinar. \nPlease note that this webinar is intended for CRC members and their leadership teams. \nMore information about these projects will be available in the next days.

SUMMARY:Towards New Communication Dynamics?
DESCRIPTION:Presentation\nThe recent pandemic has turned our daily lives upside down. Confinement and social distancing measures have impacted community relations. In that context\, most religious communities have been led to use or find new means of communication in order to break down the isolation and stay in touch.  \n\nHow do we communicate in religious communities?\nHow are leaders informed about what is going on in the community?\nHow can information be transmitted in a context of overloaded digital communications?\nLikewise\, how can the work be adapted to a new digital reality (videoconferencing\, digital fatigue\, etc.)?\nHow does technology change the models of communication according to the types of communities (monastic\, contemplative\, apostolic)?\nWhat are the impacts on community dynamism (international travel\, virtual vs. face-to-face meetings\, etc.)?\n\nThis webinar will be aimed at encouraging an exchange about the field of communication among leaders in order to identify the communication models existing in their congregation and the awareness that the pandemic has fostered. \nAudience\nThis Leaders’ Circle is intended for leaders of religious congregations as well as their leadership teams (or community councils). It is an opportunity for leaders and their leadership teams to meet and discuss matters of importance for consecrated life and religious congregations today. \nProgram\n\nWelcome and prayer\nIntroduction to the topic\nPart 1 – The impact of confinement on communication within communities\nPart 2 – Existing and emerging communication models\nConclusion\n\nLOCAL TIMES: \nNewfoundland Standard Time (NST) from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.\nAtlantic Standard Time (AST) from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.\nEastern Standard Time (EST) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.\nCentral Standard Time (CST) from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.\nMountain Standard Time (MST) from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.\nPacific Standard Time (PST) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. \nContact: mission@crc-canada.org \nAbout the CRC’s 2020-2021 programming\nFor the first time this year\, the CRC’s programming will be entirely online and interregional. The webinar approach will give us an opportunity to meet differently\, and to have more discussions amongst members of different regions. \nThe webinars will open up spaces for discussions\, allowing for meaningful exchanges of ideas and new perspectives. They will equip us and take us on a common journey of discernment about the role of consecrated life in today’s world.

SUMMARY:Governance of religious congregations: Realities\, impasses and ways forward
DESCRIPTION:Presentation\nIn recent years\, the demographics of religious congregations have evolved rapidly. The accelerating decrease in number of members has led to significant capacity gaps. \nSeveral congregations are struggling to find people who are willing to take on leadership roles and ensure renewal within this function. This situation calls for reflection. \nAre other models of governance possible\, for instance through inter-community support or external specialized management services? \nWhat existing or emerging models could provide sustainable leadership and governance\, and allow communities to focus more freely on their mission? What criteria and issues should be considered? \nAudience\nThe Leaders’ Circles are intended for members of the CRC. They represent an opportunity for leaders to meet and discuss matters of importance for consecrated life and religious congregations today. \nProgram\n\nWelcome and prayer\nPart 1 – the governance and leadership capacities of congregations\nPart 2 – existing and emerging governance and leadership models\nConclusion\n\nLOCAL TIMES: \nNewfoundland Standard Time (NST) from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.\nAtlantic Standard Time (AST) from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.\nEastern Standard Time (EST) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.\nCentral Standard Time (CST) from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.\nMountain Standard Time (MST) from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.\nPacific Standard Time (PST) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. \nContact: mission@crc-canada.org \nAbout the CRC’s 2020-2021 programming\nFor the first time this year\, the CRC’s programming will be entirely online and interregional. SUMMARY:The psychological effects of confinement: Rebuilding communion and relationships
DESCRIPTION:Presentation\nThe confinement has tested community relations and the psychological well-being of several religious community members. It became apparent that some community members had been experiencing isolation long before the pandemic. Others lost their joyfulness and zest for life. The preventative isolation also increased the vulnerability of people suffering from cognitive impairments. \nAs a leader\, how can one help and support those most affected by these challenging times (relationships cut off\, grief\, changes to community life)? What processes could help communities name and overcome the psychological after-effects of the pandemic? How can faith help overcome a traumatic episode? \nThe objective of this webinar is to provide reference points for leaders who find themselves in this situation and help them in renewing community relationships. It follows up on the psychological impacts of the confinement which leaders mentioned during the May 2020 Zoom meetings and recent September webinars. \nGuest speaker\n \nFr. Daniel Renaud\, OMI\, member of the September 2020 webinar panel\, will join us again to offer some psycho-spiritual insights on the psychological impacts of the confinement shared by leaders. \nProgram\n\nWelcome and prayer\nOverview of the psychological effects of confinement followed by a discussion amongst participants \nPsycho-spiritual insights on the psychological impacts and paths for renewing and nurturing community relationships\nQuestions\, answers & comments period\nConclusion\n\nLOCAL TIMES: \nNewfoundland Daylight Time (NDT): from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.\nAtlantic Daylight Time (ADT): from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.\nEastern Daylight Time (EDT): from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.\nCentral Daylight Time (CDT): from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.\nMountain Daylight Time (MDT): from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.\nPacific Daylight Time (PDT): from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m \nAbout the CRC’s 2020-2021 programming\nFor the first time this year\, the CRC’s programming will be entirely online and interregional. SUMMARY:Laudato Si’: heeding the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor five years on
DESCRIPTION:On May 24th\, 2015\, Pope Francis published Laudato Si’\, an encyclical on care for our common home\, thereby inviting the Church and the whole world to an urgent reflection and consistent action in all aspects of human life. The notion of integral ecology developed throughout the encyclical demonstrates the interconnectedness of systems and of the worldwide community called to rethink its involvement in sustainability: \n(…) the intimate relationship between the poor and the fragility of the planet\, the conviction that everything in the world is connected\, the critique of new paradigms and forms of power derived from technology\, the call to seek other ways of understanding the economy and progress\, the value proper to each creature\, the human meaning of ecology\, the need for forthright and honest debate\, the serious responsibility of international and local policy\, the throwaway culture and the proposal of a new lifestyle. Laudato Si' no. 16 \nTo reflect on the five-year journey since Laudato Si’ and its prophetic calls\, the CRC\, in collaboration with Development and Peace\, invites you to a webinar next Saturday. \n \nFREE PARTICIPATION \nREGISTRATION REQUIRED \nREGISTRATION \nOrganized by Development and Peace – Caritas Canada\, the CRC and GCCM – Canada \nGuest panelists \n\nStephen Bede Scharper\nAssociate Professor of Environment at the University Toronto\nToronto Star columnist\nSr. Sue Wilson\, CSJ\nOffice for Systemic Justice\nFederation of Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada\nRebecca Rathbone\nAnimator for Southwest Ontario and Caritas Youth Leader\nDevelopment and Peace – Caritas Canada\nAgnes Richard\nCoordinator\nGCCM – Canada\n\nModerated by Kelly Di Domenico\, Director of Communications and Campaigns\, Development and Peace – Caritas Canada.
