This past summer, Development and Peace organized an educators' trip to Peru. A group of Catholic school teachers, along with some family members and friends took part in the trip.
Anne-Marie Lavoie writes: "The watchword given to the 16 pilgrims is openness: openness to others, to a different culture, cuisine, to ways of doing things that are different from the “gringos” which we are. From teachers, we become apprentices: the Peruvian women show us how to prepare empanadas, pies and other desserts that we will sell at the market, bellowing the prices in our broken Spanish, how to make traditional necklaces and bracelets, but especially to take the time to experience life. In this country, the here and now and human relationships take on their full significance. We have time for real exchanges, we reconnect with the essential."
